Ocassionally server-wide backups will be made, but to make sure that you always have your latest files on hand in case something happens, it is a good idea to keep backups of your website. This article will explain how to make a backup.

First you need to log into your DirectAdmin control panel.Once you're in, under Your Account click on Create/Restore Backups

Check or uncheck the boxes to include or disclude the files you want to make a backup of. Then click on the button: Create Backup at the bottom of the form.

Now this should store a backup in your backup directory (you can see it if you click on the Files icon under the DirectAdmin logo and then click on the backups folder).

We recommend that you keep a backup on your own computer in case anything happens to the server.

If you've just created the backup then the page refreshes and tells you that you've created the backup successfully. If you look at the bottom of the page, you should see a link that says Click Here to Download the Latest Backup. Click on it to download it to your computer.

If you've created the backup a while ago but haven't downloaded it to computer yet all you have to do is find it in the backup folder (as described above) and click on the backup filename to download it. You could just as easily do this thorough FTP.

To restore a backup, simply go back to the Create/Restore Backups page and scroll down to the very bottom. You should see a dropdown menu with a list of all the backups you have stored in your backups folder. Choose the date you want to restore to and click on the button: Select Restore Options.

It's as simple as that.
